MELBURNE, Australia, mar. 4, 2005.- Los Ferrari pilotados por el alemán Michael Schumacher y el brasileño Rubens Barrichello han sido los más rápidos en la primera sesión de entrenamientos libres del sábado, disputada bajo la lluvia. Michael Schumacher dio su mejor vuelta en un tiempo de 1:40.540 y aventajó en un segundo y cuatro décimas a Barrichello, mientras que el tercer clasificado el finlandés Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren-Mercedes) quedó a tres segundos.
