El señor de los anillos: el regreso del rey, fue declarada mejor película en la entrega de premios de la Academia Británica de Cine el domingo. Bill Murray y Scarlett Johansson, coprotagonistas de
Lost in Translation, ganaron los premios a mejor actor y actriz.
El regreso del rey fue nominada para 12 premios y ganó cinco: mejor película, cinematografía, adaptación, efectos especiales y el premio del público a la película del año.
El premio al mejor director fue para Peter Weir por Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, filme que obtuvo cuatro premios en total.
Renee Zellweger ganó el premio a la mejor actriz de reparto por Cold Mountain, una película sobre la guerra de secesión estadounidense. Mejor actor de reparto fue Bill Nighy por la comedia romántica británica Love, Actually.
Mystic River de Clint Eastwood, una de las favoritas para el Oscar, tuvo cuatro nominaciones en Gran Bretaña, pero no obtuvo premios.
