Espacio USA: Vanguardia Latina is an annual forum where outstanding US-Latino and Latin-American students form some of the best universities in the hemisphere gather to analyze, propose and define the pan-regional agenda.
Grupo Televisa, through Espacio de Vingulacion (EVAC), the Inter-American Development Bank and for the 2009 edition, the City of Los Ángeles, with the support of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, are the pillars of this initiative. Since its first edition Vanguardia Latina has had the support of different political, academic and social institutions from the Americas.
Espacio USA: Vanguardia Latina is the US version of Espacio, the most important open forum for dialogue and debate for university students in Latin America. The goal is to create and strengthen productive links between young leaders of the Americas while developing a compromised pan-regional network that promotes transformation as well as social, political and economic development for the Americas such as the Organization of American States (OAS), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) among others.
After four years of successfully connecting students with the most important and influential regional institutions, the fourth edition of Espacio USA: Vanguardia Latina, will be held for the first time in Los Angeles California from May 4th through May 6th 2009. During these three days, important issues related to the hemisphere will be discussed in plenary sessions, workshops and thematic forums, while searching together for proposals and solutions to the problems faced by our societies.
Among other topics, we will discuss the challenges that the new US administration will face in respect to the complex Inter-American relationship. The emerging role of Latinos in the US as an economic, political and social power, and what roles will the networks of young people will play in the international scenario. These are some of the ideas covered by Espacio USA: Vanguardia Latina.
